Permian Basin reported a decline in its count of active drilling rigs last week, but Texas and U.S. continued to add rigs. Baker Hughes in its weekly report of July 10 said there were 256 rigs in Permian Basin – down 5 in the past week and down 9 in the past year. Also, there were 272 rigs in Texas (up 1 in the past week and up 17 or 6.67 percent in the past year) and 581 rigs in U.S. (up 1 in the past week and up 44 or 8.19 percent in the past year). The last week Texas reported a decline in rig count was April 10.
New Mexico reported 94 rigs – down 4 in the past week but up 4 in the past year.
Haynesville is runner-up among regions with 55 rigs (unchanged in past week) followed by Eagle Ford in south Texas with 47 rigs (up 3), Williston with 27 and Marcellus with 24. Among states, Oklahoma is third with 48 (unchanged) followed by Louisiana with 37 (up 3) and North Dakota with 24.
