Count of active drilling rigs in U.S. increased in the past week while counts declined in Permian Basin and Texas. In its weekly report of Oct. 24, Baker Hughes said there were 550 rigs in U.S. (up 2 in the past week from 548 and down 35 or 6 percent from 585 from a year ago). Permian Basin’s count was down 1 in the past week to 250 and down 54 or 18 percent in the past year. And Texas’ count was down 1 in the past week and down 47 or 17 percent in the past year.
Only Louisiana and Wyoming among major producing states reported additional rigs last week. New Mexico’s count was unchanged at 102 (up 2 in past year).
Eagle Ford (down 1 to 43) in south Texas and Haynesville in east Texas and Louisiana (unchanged at 41) trail Permian in rig count among regions followed by Williston (unchanged at 30) and Marcellus (unchanged at 23). Among states, Oklahoma is third behind Texas and New Mexico with 42 (unchanged) followed by Louisiana with 40 (up 3) and North Dakota with 28 (unchanged).
