Three commissioners of Railroad Commission of Texas recently approved an oil and gas monitoring plan for fiscal year 2024 to continue what the commission said is “the agency’s commitment to protecting Texans and the environment.” The plan focuses on “developing a framework to describe oil and gas monitoring and enforcement efforts – beyond inspections and remediations – and contains extensive work involving technical permit monitoring and administrative compliance enforcement.” The well-plugging program will continue with state funding, and additional staff training is scheduled.
Wei Wang, executive director, said, “Our new plan expands on our previous goals to continue regulating the oil and gas industry with precision and efficiency while keeping our environment safe. Texas continues to be the largest producer of oil and gas in the country, and we will continue to contribute to our state’s successful economy.”
