TGS announces 3D expansion of survey in Midland Basin

October 3, 2023 by PBOG

Houston-based TGS, global provider of energy data and intelligence, announced last week a northern extension of its Pontiac 3D survey in Midland Basin.  The extension increases the Pontiac 3D from 167 square miles to 267 square miles in Crane, Ector, Midland and Upton counties.  The extension sits on the western edge of the Midland Basin and encompasses historical production from Sprayberry and Wolfcamp plays along with significant accumulations in the Devonian and Ellenburger formations.  The survey is designed to assist in evaluation and horizontal development of multiple zones, including emerging Barnett, Mississippi Lime and Devonian.

David Hajovsky, executive vice president of Western Hemisphere at TGS, said Sept. 25, “We continue to leverage our knowledge and expertise to aid our clients in their exploration and development activities in Midland Basin.  The data will be processed by TGS utilizing modern land imaging technology … to provide clients with greater reservoir understanding.”

Data acquisition will begin in 2023Q4 with final data available to clients in 2024Q3.  TGS said its database includes data from more than 250,000 wells in Midland Basin.
