Permian Basin, Texas and U.S. reversed their three-week declines in count of active oil and gas drilling rigs. Baker Hughes reported Friday that as of Oct. 13 there were 311 rigs in Permian Basin (up 2 in past week, down 35 in past year), 301 in Texas (up 4 in past week, down 64 in past year) and 622 in U.S. (up 3 in past week, down 147 in past year). New Mexico fell by 2 rigs in the past week to 104 (down 5 in past year). Texas led major producing states with its gain of 4 rigs last week.
Lea County, N.M., leads Permian Basin with 58 rigs (down 2 in past week) followed by Eddy, N.M., with 45 (unchanged), Martin with 40 (down 1), Reeves with 30 (up 2) and Loving with 25 (down 1). Other rig counts in Permian include Midland with 24 (up 1), Glasscock with 12 (up 1), and Howard and Ward each with 11 (both unchanged).
Eagle Ford in south Texas remains runner-up among regions with 51 rigs (up 1 in past week, down 20 in past year) followed by Haynesville with 37 (down 2 in past week, down 33 in past year), Williston with 33 (up 1 in past week, down 7 in past year) and Marcellus with 29 (up 1 in past year, down 12 in past year). Louisiana remains No. 3 among states with 42 rigs (down 1 in past week, down 21 in past year) followed by Oklahoma with 37 (unchanged in past week, down 28 in past year) and North Dakota with 30 (unchanged in past week, down 8 in past year).
