Permian Basin, Texas and U.S. again reported additional drilling rigs for the week ending Oct. 20, according to last week’s report by Baker Hughes. There were 312 rigs in Permian Basin (up 1 in past week, down 34 in past year), 308 in Texas (up 7 in past week, down 63 in past year) and 624 in U.S. (up 2 in past week, down 147 in past year). Texas’ gain of 7 rigs was the largest among major producing states. New Mexico reported 101 rigs (down 3 in past week, down 4 in past year).
Louisiana remained No. 3 among states with 43 rigs (up 1 in past week, down 19 in past year) followed by Oklahoma with 37 (unchanged in past week, down 28 in past year) and North Dakota with 30 (unchanged in past week, down 8 in past year). Eagle Ford in south Texas remains No. 2 among regions with 50 rigs (down 1 in past week, down 21 in past year) followed by Haynesville with 40 (up 3 in past week, down 30 in past year), Williston with 33 (unchanged in past week, down 7 in past year) and Marcellus with 29 (unchanged in past week, down 12 in past year).
In Permian Basin, Lea County (down 2 to 56) and Eddy County (down 1 to 44) in New Mexico continue to lead followed by Martin with 40 (unchanged in past week), Reeves with 32 (up 2), Loving with 26 (up 1) and Midland with 24 (unchanged) in west Texas. Other county rig counts include Glasscock and Ward each with 12 rigs and Howard with 11.
