Count of active oil and gas drilling rigs declined in the past week in U.S., Texas, New Mexico and Permian Basin as of Dec. 21, according to Baker Hughes. There are 620 rigs in U.S. (623 previous week, 779 year ago), 306 in Texas (308 previous week, 374 year ago), 98 in New Mexico (100 previous week, 103 year ago) and 307 in Permian Basin (310 previous week, 352 year ago). 307 is Texas’ lowest count of the year, and 98 is New Mexico’s lowest count since 98 in June 2022. All four totals are down from start of 2023 when U.S. had 779 rigs, Texas had 376, New Mexico had 102 and Permian Basin had 353.
Baker Hughes’ count was issued a day early because of Christmas holidays.
