Permian Basin led major producing regions in U.S. by adding 3 rigs in the past week for a new total of 310 (357 year ago). According to Baker Hughes, as of Jan. 26, there were 304 rigs in Texas (305 previous week, 380 year ago), 99 in New Mexico (98 week ago, 105 year ago) and 621 in U.S. (620 week ago, 771 year ago). It was the second straight week of gains for New Mexico and U.S.
Eddy (up 2 to 53) and Lea (down 1 to 43) in New Mexico continue to lead the Permian Basin. Other basin leaders are Martin County (unchanged with 35), Reeves (up 1 to 29) and Midland (unchanged with 23) in the top five followed by Loving (22), Upton (15), Ward (14), Reagan (12) and Howard (11).
Louisiana (down 1) and Oklahoma (unchanged) are equal behind New Mexico with 42 rigs each followed by North Dakota in fifth with 32 among states. Eagle Ford remains runner-up among regions with 54 rigs (down 1 in past week, down 18 from year ago) followed by Haynesville with 42 (unchanged in past week, 69 year ago), Williston with 34 (unchanged) and Marcellus with 29 (also unchanged in past week).
