February 2, 2024 by PBOG

Permian Basin is the only one of seven major producing regions expected to grow its crude oil production this month, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration.  Permian is forecast to increase by 5,000 barrels per day in February to 5.974 million b/d from 5.969 million b/d in January.  Total production for February from the seven regions is forecast at 9.680 million b/d – down 2,000 b/d from 9.682 million b/d in January.  Eagle Ford is expected to fall by 2,000 b/d in February from 1.149 million b/d in January.

Permian leads three regions forecast to increase gas production in February.  Permian is forecast to grow by 122 million cubic feet per day this month to 24.393 billion cfd.  Bakken and Niobrara also are expected to increase in gas production this month.  The gas production leader remains Appalachia with 35.483 billion cfd in February – down from 35.642 billion cfd in January.  Eagle Ford declines by 46 million cfd this month to 7.221 billion cfd.

EIA said in its latest drilling productivity report Jan. 16 that the count of DUC wells (drilled but uncompleted) in U.S. declined to 4,374 in December from 4,438 in November. There were 830 DUC wells in Permian in December – down 7 in a month.
