Santa Clara-based Oklo, a fast fission clean energy power technology and nuclear fuel recycling company, said Monday it reached agreement with Midland’s Diamondback Energy to power Diamondback’s Permian Basin operations with emissions-free electricity from fission reactors. Oklo said it intends to license, build and operate power plants capable of generating 50 megawatts of electric power for Diamondback.
Chemical Processing said Diamondback is one of several U.S. energy and chemical companies considering use of small nuclear reactors to meet electricity demands.
Jacob DeWitte, CEO of Oklo, said, “By developing and providing a low-cost, high-reliability and emission-free energy source, Oklo is poised to help meet the growing energy requirements of operators (such as) Diamondback. The collaboration between Oklo and Diamondback represents a significant step towards emissions reductions and supporting national energy security by providing reliable access to electricity to power domestic energy operations.”
