Rig counts in Permian Basin, Texas and U.S. continue their declines, according to Baker Hughes. The last time Permian added rigs was April 19 (up 2 to 318). Baker Hughes said as of June 14 there were 309 wells in Permian (310 previous week, 342 year ago), 285 in Texas (287 previous week, 347 year ago) and 590 in U.S. (594 previous week, 687 year ago). New Mexico reported a gain of 1 well to 108 (also up from 104 year ago). New Mexico was the only major producing state to add a rig last week.
Eddy County, N.M., remains the Permian leader with 53 rigs (unchanged in past week), and Lea, N.M., added 1 in the past week to challenge Eddy for leadership with 51 rigs. Other leaders include Martin with 32 (unchanged), Reeves with 23 (unchanged) and Loving with 22 (down 1). Also, there were 20 wells in Midland (unchanged), Reagan with 17 (down 1), Upton with 15 (up 1) and Ward with 10 (unchanged).
Louisiana remains No. 3 among states with 39 rigs (down 2 in past week, 50 year ago) followed by Oklahoma with 37 (down 1 in past week, 42 year ago) and North Dakota with 32 (unchanged in past week, 36 year ago). Eagle Ford in south Texas remains No. 2 among regions with 51 (unchanged in past week, 60 year ago) followed by Haynesville with 35 (down 1 in past week, 51 year ago), Williston with 34 (unchanged in past week, 36 year ago) and Marcellus with 25 (unchanged in past week, 35 year ago).
