Officials from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency were in Fort Worth last week to present a grant of $6.2 million to Fort Worth Independent School District to purchase 15 electric school buses. The grant in the Clean School Bus program to Fort Worth ISD is one of 18 grants in Texas. “Exhaust from these buses can contribute to air quality problems and negatively impact children’s health,” Dr. Earthea Nance, EPA regional administrator, said. “Replacing diesel buses with clean energy buses will improve air quality for students, faculty and neighbors.”
Angelica Ramsey, superintendent, told Fort Worth Star Telegram June 20 the buses will provide “a cleaner, quieter and more efficient mode of transportation” for students and improve their daily commutes to school. She added, “By integrating electric buses into our fleet, we are not only reducing our carbon footprint, but also directly benefitting our students’ health and well-being.”
