Permian Basin has broken its streak of 15 straight weeks without adding oil and gas drilling rigs. Baker Hughes said as of Aug. 9 there were 304 rigs in Permian Basin (303 previous week, 327 year ago), 276 in Texas (274 previous week, 312 year ago), 107 in New Mexico (108 previous week, 113 year ago) and 588 in U.S. (586 previous week, 654 year ago). The last report of additional rigs in Permian Basin was April 19 (up 2 to 318).
Eddy County, N.M., is the narrow leader in Permian Basin (down 1 last week to 52 rigs) over Lea, N.M. (unchanged at 51). Other leaders include Martin with 31, Reeves with 28 (up 2), Loving with 21 (down 1), Midland with 18, Reagan with 15, Upton with 13 and Howard with 11.
Louisiana is No. 3 among states with 38 rigs (down 2) followed by Oklahoma and North Dakota with 35 each. Eagle Ford is No. 2 among regions with 50 followed by Williston with 36, Haynesville with 32 (down 2) and Marcellus with 25 (up 1).
