Permian Basin added a drilling rig last week for the second time in the past three weeks, according to the weekly report of Sept. 6 by Baker Hughes. There were 306 rigs in Permian Basin (up 1 from 305 previous week, down 14 from 320 year ago). Baker Hughes also reported 274 rigs in Texas (unchanged in past week, down 36 from 310 year ago), 106 in New Mexico (up 1 from 105 previous week, up 2 from 104 year ago) and 582 in U.S. (down 1 from 583 previous week, down 50 from 632 year ago).
Midland County added 3 rigs to move among the top five counties in Permian Basin. As of Sept. 6, there were 53 rigs in Lea, N.M. (up 1 in past week), followed by Eddy with 49 (unchanged), Martin with 32 (up 1), Reeves with 29 (up 1) and Midland with 23 (up 3). Also, Loving reported 20, and Reagan and Upton each had 14 rigs.
Eagle Ford in south Texas remains No. 2 among regions with 48 rigs (unchanged in past week) followed by Williston with 34 (unchanged), Haynesville with 32 (unchanged) and Marcellus with 23 (unchanged). Louisiana is No. 3 among states with 40 (unchanged) followed by Oklahoma with 38 (down 1) and North Dakota with 33 (unchanged).
