Seven of the 10 most prolific public oil and gas operators in the U.S. last year based on gross operated production are in Permian Basin, including top-ranked ExxonMobil with 1,960,962 boed. Enverus said last week the Permian “is still the king and the most active region operated by the top 50 operators.” Permian produced 81 percent of the oil and 40 percent of the gas by the top 50 operators. In 2023 the top 10 represented 56 percent of production, but Enverus said last year the figure jumped to 62 percent “due to mergers.”
In 2024 the top 50 were running 298 rigs when the list was compiled compared to 322 the previous year.
Joining ExxonMobil in the top 10, according to Enverus, were (3) Occidental Petroleum, (4) EOG Resources, (5) Devon Energy, (6) ConocoPhillips, (7) Chevron and (9) Diamondback Energy. Thirteen other Permian operators were in Enverus’ top 50.
