Several members of the Texas legislature were in west Texas recently to learn about the oil and natural gas industry in the Permian Basin. Senators and representatives from the 89th session now in progress in Austin attended a series of events, including site tours and panel discussions. Rep. Pat Curry, R-Waco, told the Midland Reporter Telegram, “This industry contributes not to Texas but to the world. This is one of the most important regions in the world.”
Speakers included Midland mayor Lori Blong; Rep. Tom Craddick, R-Midland; Sen. Kevin Sparks, R-Midland; and Lance Robertson, former president and CEO of Endeavor Energy Resources. Robertson talked about increased production in Permian Basin and added, “If the Permian Basin had not grown, the entire world would not have had enough oil over the last 10 years.”
Legislators were in west Texas a few days before the 140-day session opened Jan. 14.
