No new drilling activity was reported last week in Permian Basin, Texas and New Mexico, Baker Hughes said in its weekly report of April 25. The U.S. count of active drilling rigs grew by 2 in the past week to 587 (613 year ago). There were 289 rigs in Permian Basin (317 year ago), 274 in Texas (297 year ago) and 100 in New Mexico (107 year ago). Only Oklahoma (2) and California (1) reported new rigs last week.
Eddy (51 rigs) and Lea (46) counties in New Mexico are the Permian leaders followed by Martin and Reeves with 26 each and Midland and Loving with 21 each. Also, there are 17 rigs in Upton and 10 in Ward.
Eagle Ford in south Texas is runner-up among regions with 47 rigs followed by Williston with 33, Haynesville with 32 and Marcellus with 25. Third among states was Oklahoma with 55 rigs followed by North Dakota with 32 and Louisiana with 30.
