Rig counts increased in Permian Basin, Texas, New Mexico and U.S. in the past week, according to the weekly report of April 3 by Baker Hughes. U.S. count was up 5 from the previous week to 548 rigs (down 42 or 7.12 percent from 590 a year ago). U.S. reported 3 additional gas-directed rigs and 2 additional oil-directed rigs.
The count in Permian Basin was up 1 to 242 (down 52 or 17.69 percent from 294 a year ago). Also as of April 3, Baker Hughes said there were 233 rigs in Texas (up 2 in the past week, down 44 or 15.88 percent from 277 a year ago) and 103 in New Mexico (up 1 in the past week, up 2 in the past year). Texas’ gain of 2 rigs was the largest among major producing states. New Mexico’s count of 103 is its highest of the year.
Haynesville is No. 2 among regions with 56 rigs (up 1 in past week) followed by Eagle Ford in south Texas with 45 (up 3), Williston with 29 (down 1) and Marcellus with 25 (unchanged). Oklahoma is No. 3 among states with 44 rigs (unchanged in past week) followed by Louisiana with 40 (up 1) and North Dakota with 27 (down 1).
