Next Generation Drilling Motors
Sperry Drilling, a Halliburton (NYSE: HAL) business, announced on Sept. 21, the release of GeoForce Endure and StrataForce Endure motors, the latest additions to the drilling motor product line focused on increasing reliability in harsh drilling environments.
Challenging drilling operations can cause motors to degrade, resulting in nonproductive time due to “chunking.” This common failure occurs when the elastomer across the motor’s power section, especially at the lower end of the stator, breaks down. Chunking limits the life and performance of motors, leading to premature product replacement and nonproductive time. The Endure motor technology is designed to overcome this issue with a proprietary metal helix that controls vibration and prevents overloading the stator elastomer.
“The launch of GeoForce Endure and StrataForce Endure motors brings a unique step-change in reliability and performance with the potential to eliminate as much as half of motor chunking failures,” said Corey Walker, vice president of Sperry Drilling. “Our goal for the Endure motor technology is to set a new benchmark in productive drilling time.”
In two separate wells, an operator in Canada recently deployed the GeoForce Endure motor to drill the curve and lateral section in one run. This demanded an extremely durable motor capable of running for 200 hours while holding high differential pressures of over 1,000 psi. On two runs in separate wells, the GeoForce Endure motor showed no signs of chunking and provided improved performance and reliability to reach total depth.
The Endure motors were formally introduced at SPE’s Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition in Dubai. For additional information, please visit our website.

Wellbore Shielding and Stabilization Solutions
Impact Fluid Solutions, a premier provider of specialty additives for oil and gas drilling, cementing and completions, announced on Sept. 26. the expansion of its FLC line of Wellbore Shielding and stabilization solutions. A series of new FLC products will build on the success of Impact’s industry-leading FLC 2000 additive for drilling fluids, while offering broader capabilities to meet specific well parameters and requirements.
Designed for depleted and mechanically weak formations, FLC additives act as shielding agents, forming a tough, impermeable barrier at the fluid-rock interface. This “shield” minimizes fluid and pressure invasion, stabilizing and strengthening the wellbore.
For over a decade, leading operators, oilfield service providers, and fluid companies have trusted Impact’s FLC 2000 to reduce non-productive time, preserve wellbore integrity, and improve ultimate recoveries in basins worldwide. Compatible with water-, oil- and synthetic-based fluid systems, FLC 2000 seals fractures up to 250 μm.
The newest FLC additives are specifically designed for today’s oil and gas environment, as operators are challenged to reduce well costs and improve production. The expanded FLC product line will help operators succeed in a wide variety of difficult drilling conditions by offering increased capabilities to provide fit-for-purpose solutions.
“FLC 2000 has enabled our customers to prevent fluid loss, formation damage, and lost circulation incidents in over 3,000 wells around the world,” said Rod Uchytil, president and CEO of Impact. “However, every drilling program is different. This exciting expansion of our FLC product line will enable our customers to solve a broader range of wellbore stability challenges while optimizing mud weight and solids in the fluid system.”
In addition to FLC 2000, the expanded FLC product line includes:
- FLC Fine – Seals fractures up to 150 μm while the smaller particle size improves solids control management, reducing maintenance costs without compromising performance.
- FLC Supreme – Seals 500 μm fractures with a broad sealing range that does not require bypassing the shale shaker systems.
- FLC Extreme – Seals 500-3,000 μm fractures at high differential pressures, offering a comprehensive range of sealing capabilities while still allowing the continuous use of shale shaker systems.
- FLC Max – Seals 250 μm fractures; engineered specifically for oil- and synthetic-based fluid systems, with enhanced lipophilic properties to accelerate sealing, reduce HPHT fluid loss and spurt loss, improve oil phase dispersibility, and reduce maintenance costs.
Impact formally launched the expanded FLC line at the SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition.
Attendees can visit Impact at Stand No. 6156 to view FLC presentations and product demonstrations.

Drilled but Uncompleted (DUC) Wells Analysis Product
S&P Global Platts, the leading independent provider of information and benchmark prices for the commodities and energy markets, announced on Oct. 13, the launch of Platts WELLSCAPE P2P, a new product to help upstream market analysts identify drilled but uncompleted (DUC) wells.
Platts, through its recent acquisition of RigData, has leveraged the experience and data history necessary to meet market demand for insight into the status of the in ground oil and gas inventory.
“Platts WELLSCAPE P2P has been developed based on the needs of three key upstream industry sectors: oilfield service companies, operating companies, and financial/equity analysis firms,” said Tim Wise, product development manager of Platts RigData, a forecasting and analytics unit of S&P Global Platts. “Today a permit to drill is not always turning into new productive capacity. Deferring completion of recent drills creates an in-ground inventory that directly impacts current and future oil field activity and revenue opportunities for producers.”
With data covering 28 major plays and the entire U.S., Platts WELLSCAPE P2P enables the user to filter, prioritize, and review the current disposition of the well lifecycle. It presents insights into more than 100,000 assets with a trailing 24 month status of drilling activity on each well site. Starting with the permit, it tracks that asset from intent to drill, drill, complete, and into first production.
S&P Global Platts acquired RigData, a provider of daily information on rig activity for the natural gas and oil markets across North America, on June 1, 2016.
New Winter Glove Line
Forney Industries announces the addition of two winter work gloves to their ForneyHide glove line. With much success over the past few years, ForneyHide has been introduced to the automotive, hardware, industrial, and farm/ranch markets as well as for general home and workshop use. The new winter styles include leather mittens and utility work gloves designed for those who work in colder conditions.
“We are pleased with these two winter glove additions, with the cold weather soon upon us, it’s a great time to introduce them to the market,” said Todd Romero, senior product line manager for ForneyHide. “Our customers have always been loyal to our line of work gloves because they prove to be well made. They’re not only comfortable; they withstand the rigor of our customer’s work.”
Both the mittens and the work gloves are made with high-quality deerskin leather. This naturally water resistant fabric makes for a comfortable fit and remains soft after exposed to wet, damp conditions.
