A joint venture of Houston-based Bluewing Midstream and San Antonio-based One Cypress Energy said last week it is expanding its storage capacity of bulk liquids at Port of Brownsville by 300,000 barrels. Phase II of the expansion project will increase total capacity to 1.1 million barrels to serve markets in Mexico, other international locations and south Texas with gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and other petroleum products. Phase II expansion is expected to be completed by yearend 2019. One Cypress Energy senior vice president Chad Smith said, “Brownsville is really the sweet spot of being able to obtain fuel and deliver to Mexico.” Demand is growing in Mexico; during this time when its production is shrinking, Mexico imports most of its transportation fuels from U.S. refineries.
