U.S. Department of Energy said last month Texas is No. 1 for wind energy production with about 27 gigawatts of installed capacity. The nation reached a milestone in 2019 of 100 gigawatts of installed wind energy capacity. (One gigawatt provides power for 700,000 homes.) Producers were expected to add another 7.2 gigawatts of capacity in December and 14.3 gigawatts in 2020 to reach about 122 gigawatts of wind energy capacity by yearend 2020. Forty-one states have at least one wind turbine. The first turbine was installed in the U.S. in 1975.
