Houston-based Infrastructure Networks and Finnish cell phone equipment giant Nokia said this week they are partnering to bring fifth generation mobile data services to the Permian Basin and three other industry regions. INET said Tuesday it completed a major expansion of its private LTE network – adding capacity in existing areas, doubling geographic coverage, and upgrading the network to be 5G-ready by installing transmitters and receivers at cell phone towers. The resulting network now covers 130,000 square miles in Permian Basin, Eagle Ford in south Texas, SCOOP/STACK in Oklahoma and Bakken in North Dakota.
INET’s announcement said, “INET’s LTE network is positioned to meet the mission critical needs of the oil and gas industry across drilling, completions, production and midstream operations.”
