A report from Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association says Permian Basin employed 87,603 people in the oil and gas industry in 2019 – an increase of about 3,200 new jobs compared to 2018 in the basin’s 63 counties in west Texas and eastern New Mexico. TIPRO said employment grew by 42,833 people in the past decade. Midland County was the leader in employment in 2019 with 33,328 workers (up 20,802 in the last decade), and Ector County had 14,791. In New Mexico, Lea County had 8,356 workers, and Eddy County had 7,766. Production of oil and gas quadrupled in the past decade in Permian Basin.
