Drilling permits filed in Texas in the first week of June were more than double the previous week, according to Houston Chronicle, as activity returns to the state’s oilfields. For the week of June 3-9, 42 companies filed for 109 permits with the Railroad Commission of Texas – compared to 53 permits the previous week. And nearly half of the new permits were filed in Permian Basin.
Irving-based Pioneer Natural Resources led Texas drillers with 23 permits June 3-9 for horizontal wells targeting Spraberry in Martin and Midland counties. Fort Worth-based Double Eagle Development filed 12 permits to Spraberry in Midland County, and Tulsa-based WPX Energy filed 10 permits targeting Bone Spring and Wolfcamp on state-owned land in Loving and Ward counties. And Midland-based Diamondback Energy plans to drill 7 horizontal wells in Martin, Pecos and Reeves counties. “A drilling revival may soon be underway in the Permian Basin,” the Chronicle added.
