After a brief rally, rig counts in Permian Basin, Texas, New Mexico and U.S. have resumed declines, according to Baker Hughes. As of Sept. 11, there were 124 rigs in Permian Basin (125 week ago, 419 year ago), 105 rigs in Texas (106 week ago, 430 year ago), 46 rigs in New Mexico (47 week ago, 108 year ago) and 254 rigs in U.S. (256 week ago, 886 year ago). Low counts for the year were recorded last month at 117 in Permian Basin, 100 in Texas, 45 in New Mexico and 244 in U.S.
Two counties in New Mexico, Eddy (down 1 in past week to 25 rigs) and Lea (unchanged with 21 rigs), continue to lead Permian Basin followed by Martin County with 19 rigs, Midland (up 3 in past week) with 15 and Loving with 10. The Midland district led reports from Railroad Commission of Texas in August with 56 percent of drilling permits (211 of 377 permits) and 64 percent of new oil completions (590 of 922 completions).
Rig counts in other top states as of Sept. 11 were Louisiana with 37, Pennsylvania with 18 and Oklahoma with 12. Oklahoma was only major producing state to add at least 1 rig last week. Other leading regions include Haynesville with 35 rigs, Marcellus with 24, and Eagle Ford and Williston with 9 each.
