Texas adds rigs for third straight week, U.S. gains for fourth straight week

Count of active oil and gas drilling rigs increased for the fourth straight week in U.S. and third straight week in Permian Basin as of Oct. 9, according to Baker Hughes. There were 130 rigs in Permian Basin (129 previous week, low this year of 117 Aug. 14) and 269 rigs in U.S. (266 previous week, low this year of 244 Aug. 14). Also, there were 116 rigs in Texas (113 previous week, low this year of 100 Aug. 14) and 45 rigs in New Mexico (44 previous week, low this year of 41 Sept. 25). Texas and New Mexico were the only major producing states to add rigs in the past week.
Eddy County, N.M., added 1 rig in the past week for a nation-leading total of 25, and Lea, N.M., was unchanged with 20 rigs. Martin County was unchanged with 18 rigs, and Midland County idled 1 rig in the past week for a total of 16.
Louisiana remains third among states with 40 rigs (unchanged in past week) followed by Pennsylvania with 18 (19 previous week), Oklahoma with 12 (unchanged) and North Dakota with 10 (unchanged). Among regions, Haynesville is runner-up with 36 rigs (unchanged) followed by Marcellus with 25 (26 previous week), Eagle Ford with 13 (12 previous week) and Williston with 11 (unchanged).
