Rig count is up 44 percent in Permian Basin as of Dec. 11 from the 2020 low of 117 rigs in August. Oilfield services company Baker Hughes of Houston said as of Dec. 11 rig counts were 168 in Permian, 155 in Texas (up 55 percent since 2020 low of 100 in August), 60 in New Mexico (up 46 percent from 2020 low of 41 in September) and 338 in U.S. (up 39 percent from 2020 low of 244). Texas’ rig count has increased for eight straight weeks.
No producing state reported a decline last week. Other leaders include Louisiana with 40 rigs, Pennsylvania with 19, Oklahoma with 14 and North Dakota with 11. Other leading regions include Haynesville with 40 rigs, Marcellus with 27, Eagle Ford with 26 and Williston with 11.
Lea County, N.M., added 1 rig last week to remain Permian leader with 32 followed by Eddy County, N.M., with 28 (unchanged in last week), Midland with 22 (up 2), Howard and Martin with 14 each, and Reeves with 11.
