Recent winter storms that brought ice, snow and sub-zero weather to Texas in February slowed drilling activity in the oil and gas industry. Baker Hughes said that as of Feb. 19 Permian Basin and Texas each added only 1 active rig in the previous week, and rig counts in New Mexico and U.S. were unchanged. Permian Basin has 204 rigs (203 previous week), and Texas has 194 rigs (193 previous week). There are 61 rigs in New Mexico and 397 in U.S.
New Mexico counties Lea (32 rigs) and Eddy (29) continue to lead counts in Permian Basin (both unchanged). Rig counts in other counties, according to Baker Hughes, as of Feb. 19 were Martin with 22, Midland with 20 (up 4 in previous week), Howard with 18, Loving and Reeves with 16 each, and Andrews with 10.
Louisiana is third among states in rig count with 47 (46 previous week) followed by Pennsylvania with 18, Oklahoma with 17, North Dakota with 14 and West Virginia with 12. Haynesville is runner-up among regions with 46 rigs (unchanged in previous week) followed by Marcellus with 30, Eagle Ford with 29 and Williston with 14 as only five regions have double-digit rig counts.
