Baker Hughes’ count of active oil and gas drilling rigs increased again June 18 to 470 – a gain of 93 percent since low of 244 in August 2020. There were also 237 rigs in Permian Basin (236 last week, 132 last year), 221 rigs in Texas (219 last week, 111 last year) and 75 rigs in New Mexico (75 last week, 51 last year).
Lea County, N.M., is the Permian leader as of June 18 with 44 rigs followed by Midland with 39, Eddy, N.M., with 30, Reeves with 26, Martin with 18, Loving with 16, Howard with 13 and Upton with 12.
Louisiana is third among states with 52 rigs followed by Oklahoma with 27 and Pennsylvania with 18. Haynesville is runner-up among regions with 49 rigs followed by Eagle Ford with 32, Marcellus with 27 and Williston with 17.
