Texas’ statewide flaring fell to a record low in September, according to the latest data from Railroad Commission of Texas. The commission said Dec. 2 the percentage of natural gas flared in Texas fell from a previous record low of 0.61 percent in July 2021 to a new record low of 0.21 percent in September 2021. Texas has one of the lowest flaring rates of large oil and gas producing states in U.S. with an average rate of flaring under two percent for more than two years.
Commission chair Wayne Christian said, “Texas continues to show the rest of the world that it’s possible to produce large quantities of reliable fuel while being environmentally responsible. Despite mainstream reporting, you don’t have to choose between using cheap, plentiful and reliable fuel and maintaining a healthy environment… Reports like this one are critically important to fighting misinformation from environmental extremists.”
