Cimarron, Hy-Bon selected for DOE emissions reduction program

December 16, 2021 by PBOG

Houston-based Cimarron, global provider of environmental and emissions control equipment and services and parent company of Midland’s Hy-Bon Engineering, is one of 12 companies selected by U.S. Department of Energy to participate in its emissions reduction program known as REMEDY.  Cimarron will receive a grant of $1 million for its hybrid torch design coupled with advanced controls.  Cimarron said the design ensures a destruction efficiency of 99.5 percent for flares that handle both high- and low-pressure gas streams.

The grant will accelerate the company’s research and development to meet the target of 99.5 percent destruction efficiency.  The flare equipment is manufactured in Oklahoma, but parts and service are available at Hy-Bon in Midland, where the company’s vapor recovery units are made.

Cimarron CEO Jeff Foster said, “When capturing emissions is not possible, or when methane must be released in emergency, event-driven conditions, flares are a critical and reliable technology to reduce emissions.  Cimarron’s engineers have been developing new technologies to constantly improve the destruction efficiency for flares.”
