Exports of liquefied natural gas helped produce another record year for the Port of Corpus Christi, according to Natural Gas Intelligence. The south Texas port ended 2021 with a record 15.7 million tons of LNG exports as global energy markets continued to recover from reduced demand caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The port had an 81.2 percent increase in LNG shipments from 2020 to 2021, and its crude oil exports averaged a record 1.76 million b/d in 2021 (also an increase over its 2020 record performance). Total annual tonnage of 167.3 million tons is a 4.7 percent increase over 2020, port officials said.
Port CEO Sean Strawbridge said Jan. 21, “These tonnage numbers are an indication of a continued recovery in the global energy markets, coupled with an economic resiliency resulting from our transportation infrastructure investments alongside our customers’ increased investments in their operations.”
