For the first time this year, U.S. failed to report an increase in Baker Hughes’ count of active oil and gas drilling rigs. As of March 4 there were 310 rigs in Permian Basin (up 1 in previous week, up 99 in previous year), 308 in Texas (down 4 in previous week, up 106 in previous year), 99 in New Mexico (up 4 in previous week, up 38 in previous year) and 650 in U.S. (unchanged from previous week, up 247 in previous year). New Mexico’s gain of 4 was its largest of 2022.
Lea County, N.M., remains Permian leader with 63 rigs followed by Midland with 31, Eddy, N.M., and Martin with 30 each, Reeves with 23 and Howard with 20.
Louisiana remains third among states with 56 rigs followed by Oklahoma with 49, North Dakota with 33 and Pennsylvania with 25. Haynesville remains No. 2 among regions with 63 rigs followed by Eagle Ford with 54, Marcellus with 36, Williston with 34 and Cana Woodford with 28.
