Permian Basin, Texas and U.S. posted small gains in counts of active oil and gas drilling rigs in the previous week, according to the July 8 report from Baker Hughes. Texas and Louisiana were the only states to add rigs onshore last week. Baker Hughes said there were 350 rigs in Permian Basin (349 week ago, 237 year ago), 361 in Texas (360 week ago, 224 year ago), 112 in New Mexico (112 week ago, 75 year ago) and 752 in U.S. (750 week ago, 479 year ago). Only once since January (May 27) has the Permian declined in Baker Hughes’ weekly rig count.
Louisiana remains No. 3 among states in rig count with 65 (up 1 in past week) followed by Oklahoma with 60 and North Dakota with 35. Haynesville remains No. 2 among regions with 69 rigs followed closely by Eagle Ford with 68 and Marcellus and Williston each with 38 rigs.
In the Permian, Lea County (56 rigs), N.M., and Eddy (53), N.M., were unchanged to remain the basin leaders. Others include Midland (down 2 to 39), Martin (up 1 to 30), Reeves (unchanged with 27), Loving (up 1 to 26) and Howard (unchanged with 24). Enverus said Pioneer Natural Resources was the 2022Q2 leader in Permian Basin with an average of 25 rigs followed by EOG Resources with 18.
