XRI begins construction on produced water pipeline system in Permian

December 15, 2022 by PBOG

Houston-based XRI Holdings said recently it started construction of Evolution pipeline system in Permian Basin to recycle and manage more than 500,000 barrels of produced water per day from operators in Glasscock, Midland, Reagan and Midland counties.  The pipeline system is a large-scale recycling and produced water infrastructure network connecting XRI’s existing pipeline system in Midland County to infrastructure in Reagan and Upton counties.  When completed, the system will include 230 miles of pipeline, recycling facilities and produced water disposal wells covering much of Midland Basin.  Operations will begin in 2023Q1.

XRI said Evolution addresses and mitigates risks from produced water disposal activity in seismically sensitive areas.  Matthew Gabriel, CEO, said Dec. 1, “The Evolution pipeline mitigates over-pressurization risks caused by injection into salt water disposal wells, reduces use of groundwater, particularly potable water sources, and lowers customers’ costs.”  Evolution is supported by long-term commitments with ExxonMobil subsidiary XTO Energy, Chevron and Pioneer.
