Permian Basin, Texas, New Mexico and U.S. each added rigs in the second week of 2023, according to the weekly report of Jan. 13 from Baker Hughes. There were 356 rigs in Permian (353 week ago, 293 year ago), 379 in Texas (378 week ago, 281 year ago), 103 in New Mexico (100 week ago, 95 year ago) and 775 in U.S. (772 week ago, 601 year ago). New Mexico’s gain of 3 was the largest last week among major producing states.
Eagle Ford in south Texas is No. 2 among regions with 73 rigs (up 2 in past week) followed by Haynesville with 68 (down 1), Williston with 42 (flat) and Marcellus with 38 (flat). Louisiana is No. 3 among states with 67 (up 1) followed by Oklahoma with 64 (down 2) and North Dakota with 39 (flat).
Lea County, N.M., is the Permian leader with 66 rigs after adding 2 last week. Other basin leaders are Martin with 36 (up 2), Eddy, N.M., with 35 (up 1), Reeves with 34 (flat), Midland with 30 (down 2), Loving with 29, Howard with 22, and Upton and Ward each with 16.
