Texas Workforce Commission said last week that upstream oil and gas employment increased by 1,300 jobs in Texas in December and by 36,100 for the year 2022 to 211,200. Todd Staples, president of Texas Oil and Gas Association, said, “It is encouraging to see upstream employment end the year on a positive note, particularly as jobs seem to be contracting in the high-tech industry… We are hopeful that demand for oil and natural gas remains strong and that policies for growth are supportive so that job creation and capital deployment remain positive.”
The industry has added 54,200 upstream jobs (average of 2,007 per month) in Texas since a low in September 2020 (157,000) during the covid19 pandemic.
