U.S. and Texas rig counts continued to decline, but Permian Basin added a rig in the past week for only the third time this year in Baker Hughes’ weekly report of Feb. 24. Permian’s count was up 1 in past week to 353 (353 to start 2023), Texas was flat at 370 (376 to start 2023), New Mexico was down 2 to 106 (102 to start 2023) and U.S. was down 7 to 753 (779 to start 2023).
Louisiana is third among states with 64 rigs (unchanged) followed by Oklahoma with 62 (down 2 in past week) and North Dakota with 41 (unchanged). Eagle Ford is No. 2 among regions with 71 (unchanged) followed by Haynesville with 68 (down 2 in past week), Williston with 42 and Marcellus with 36.
Lea County, N.M., was down 1 to 57 in Permian followed by Eddy, N.M., with 47 (unchanged), Martin with 40 (unchanged), Reeves with 34 (unchanged), Loving with 30 (up 1), Midland with 24 (unchanged) and Howard with 21 (down 1).
