Partners in the Belvieu Alternative NGL pipeline recently sanctioned its expansion to 300,000 barrels per day. BANGL currently transports 250,000 b/d from Permian Basin to Sweeny after initial capacity of 125,000 b/d. Expansion by partners WhiteWater Midstream, MPLX and Rattler Midstream is designed to support increased production and deliver more liquids to MPLX’s Gulf Coast fractionation facilities. This additional capacity is expected to come online in second half of 2026.
Notable associated projects include Gulf Coast fractionation complex, which includes two 150,000 b/d facilities in Galveston Bay expected to come online in 2028 and 2029. And MPLX is collaborating with ONEOK to build a LPG export terminal (400,000 b/d) in Texas City and associated pipeline by 2028.
Maryann Mannen, MPLX president and CEO, said Feb. 4, “As part of our 2025 plan, we are executing our Gulf Coast NGL strategy and other growth projects anchored in the Permian and Marcellus basins.”
Ongoing pipeline projects include Blackcomb in Agua Dulce (WhiteWater Midstream) and Rio Bravo in Brownsville (JV of WhiteWater, MPLX and Enbridge) to enhance natural gas transportation from Permian Basin to the Gulf Coast. MPLX also is investing in new gas processing facilities, including Secretariat processing plant (200 million cfd) in Permian Basin by 2025Q4.
