Five Texas operators – once some of the most active drillers in the state – have stopped filing for permits with Railroad Commission of Texas. Houston Chronicle reported this week that 24 companies filed 54 drilling permits during week of May 13-19 – lowest number of filings in one week this year. Chronicle said Apache, Murphy Oil, Parsley Energy, Sanchez Energy and Surge Energy have not filed a drilling permit since April 11 or earlier.
Also, Chronicle reported Midland’s Diamondback Energy filed to drill 9 new horizontal wells, including 7 targeting Spraberry in Howard and Martin counties and 2 targeting Wolfcamp in Pecos County.
