Both U.S. and Texas reversed two-month declines in Baker Hughes’ count of active oil and gas drilling rigs. As of Oct. 11, Texas had the largest gain among states in the past week with 6 rigs added to raise its total to 420 (532 a year ago). And across the U.S. there was 1 additional rig for a total of 856 (1,063 a year ago). That marked the first time since August for U.S. and Texas to add rigs in Baker Hughes’ weekly report. Permian Basin matched Texas’ gain with 6 additional rigs in the past week for a total of 421 (489 a year ago). And New Mexico posted its first weekly decline since August by falling 1 to 112 (102 a year ago).
Other leading regions include Eagle Ford with 60 (60 last week, 77 last year), Williston with 55 (55 last week, 52 last year), Haynesville with 52 (50 last week, 50 last year) and Marcellus with 47 (48 last week, 56 last year). Other leading states include Oklahoma with 62 (63 last week, 142 last year), Louisiana with 57 (55 last week, 64 last year) and North Dakota with 54 (54 last week, 52 last year).
