Railroad Commission of Texas said May 17 it recently completed a four-year project to clean the Wheeler Road Westex Notrees surface waste disposal facility near Odessa. The $9 million remediation work began in 2017 to clean the site with five waste pits that operated until 2012 in Ector County. The commission said it removed 204,000 cubic yards of oily waste. Peter Pope, RRC remediation manager, said, “Our objective is to remove all contamination and waste to protect public safety and the environment.” RRC said the project is one of 168 oil and gas sites cleaned this fiscal year that ends in August (goal of 230 sites to be cleaned).
