After four additional earthquakes in northwest Midland County last week, KOSA-TV and Midland Reporter Telegram reported this week the Railroad Commission of Texas suspended indefinitely all deep injection of produced water by oil and gas operators effective Dec. 31. Operators of disposal wells in Gardendale seismic response area will not be permitted to inject below the top of the Strawn formation (about 10,000 feet). Earthquakes measuring from 3.1 to 3.7 were detected Dec. 15 and 16. Inspectors, geologists and RRC staff have been monitoring the area since about 30 earthquakes occurred in the Gardendale SRA since December 2019.
