Rig counts declined in the past week in U.S., Texas and Permian Basin, according to the weekly report of July 24 from Baker Hughes. It was the first decline in Texas after 14 straight weeks of flat or increased rig counts since April 10. There were 258 rigs in Permian (down 1 in the past week, down 2 in the past year) and 272 rigs in Texas (down 2 in past week, up 23 or 9.24 percent in past year).
The U.S. count declined by 1 to 587 (up 45 rigs or 8.30 percent from 542 a year ago), and the New Mexico count was unchanged at 96 (up 3 in past year). Colorado was the only major producing state to add a rig last week.
Haynesville retained its No. 2 position among states with 56 rigs (up 1 in past week, up 15 in past year) followed by Eagle Ford with 47 (unchanged in past week, up 8 in past year), Williston with 27 and Marcellus with 24. Among states, Oklahoma has 50 rigs, Louisiana 37 and North Dakota 24.
