U.S. Energy Information Admininstration said crude oil inputs to Mexico’s six petroleum refineries declined for the fifth consecutive year in 2018. Mexico’s six refineries consumed a total of 600,000 barrels of crude oil per day in 2018, according to the EIA report. That’s a 50 percent decline since 2013.
Production of gasoline and diesel also declined the past five years at the six refineries, the EIA report said. Mexico’s “aging” refineries produced about 200,000 barrels of gasoline per day in 2018 as gasoline imports to Mexico climbed to more than 535,000 barrels per day, including imports from a refinery in Houston suburb Deer Park. The nation’s new president said in March that improvements will be made to the existing refineries and a seventh will be built.
