U.S., Permian Basin and New Mexico added drilling rigs last week, and the count in Texas was unchanged. Houston-based services firm Baker Hughes said in its report of Nov. 21 there were 234 rigs in Texas (unchanged from the previous week, down 47 or 16.7 percent from 281 year ago) and 254 in Permian Basin (up 1 in past week, down 49 or 16.2 percent from 303 year ago). Permian Basin has added at least 1 rig in three of the last four weeks.
New Mexico reported 106 rigs (up 1 in past week, up 4 in past year), and there were 554 rigs in U.S. (up 5 in past week, down 29 or 4.97 percent in past year).
Among states, Louisiana is third with 43 (down 1 in past week) followed closely by Oklahoma with 42 (up 1) and North Dakota with 27 (down 1). Among regions, Eagle Ford in south Texas and Haynesville have 41 rigs each – unchanged for both – followed by Williston with 29 (unchanged) and Marcellus with 24 (up 1).
