After three months of increases, jobs in the energy services workforce in both U.S. and Texas declined in June, according to data from Houston-based Energy Workforce and Technology Council. Despite the modest declines, the council said the workforce “remained stable through the first half of 2026.” Data were compiled from the Bureau of Labor Statistics with analysis by the council.
Molly Determan, council president, said July 7, “While month-to-month employment levels continue to fluctuate, the overall trend in the first half of this year has been one of stability. The industry’s focus remains on maintaining a skilled workforce while operating efficiently and preparing for future opportunities… Companies are well positioned to respond while continuing to support reliable American energy production.”
U.S. reported 627,259 energy services jobs in June after 633,115 in May – the highest of any month in 2026 after starting with 624,149 in January.
Four of the top five states also declined in energy services jobs in June. Texas’ total fell to 305,653 from 308,519 in May – its highest of 2026 after starting with 304,687 in January. Modest declines were also registered in Louisiana with 52,376, Oklahoma with 47,734 and New Mexico with 23,459. Only Colorado increased to 25,467 jobs in June from 25,449 in May.
