Eighteen Permian -focused operators are among the “most prolific 50 public oil and gas operators in the U.S.” based on gross operated production last year, according to Austin-based Enverus. ExxonMobil, Chesapeake Energy and EOG Resources are the top three – each producing more than 1 million boed. Enverus said the list “factors in last year’s mergers, which helped propel Exxon to number one in the ranking, and features well breakdown by oil, liquids and gas production; total company well counts; and recent rig count changes.”
The 18 Permian operators include Midland-based Diamondback Energy (13th with 491,636 boed) and Permian Resources (15th with 391,236 boed).
Exxon moved up from second in 2022 with 1.167 million boed (43 percent oil) in 2023. Chesapeake fell to second with 1.130 million boed (2 percent oil), and EOG moved up to third from fourth with 1.103 million boed (57 percent oil).
