Federal Energy Regulatory Commission last week approved certificates for two multibillion-dollar LNG facilities at Port of Brownsville for Houston-based companies. FERC approved at its meeting Thursday the Rio Grande LNG by NextDecade and Texas LNG Brownsville by global energy developer Glenfarne, according to FERC acting chairman Willie Phillips. Analysts said the approvals could move the projects closer to financial backing needed and to achieving remaining capacity agreements.
Bettina Tolin, town councilor for Laguna Vista, told Houston Chronicle, “It creates a lot of really good jobs for a number of years. It does a lot of really good economic things for our community.” Brendan Duval, CEO of Glenfarne Energy Transition, added, “Environmental justice and the carbon footprint of our project are among the most important issues we regularly consider as we progress Texas LNG to a final investment decision this year.”
