U.S. count of active drilling rigs continues down for the year while counts in Permian Basin, Texas and New Mexico increased in the weekly report of Jan. 27 from Baker Hughes. There were 357 rigs in Permian Basin (up 3 in past week), 380 in Texas (unchanged), 105 in New Mexico (up 3) and 771 in U.S. (unchanged). U.S. count is down 8 from 779 to start 2023.
Oklahoma is No. 3 among states with 64 followed by Louisiana with 61 and North Dakota with 41. Eagle Ford is No. 2 among regions with 72 followed by Haynesville with 69, Williston with 42 and Marcellus with 37.
Lea County, N.M., is the Permian leader with 67 (up 1 last week). Martin grew 4 for a count of 40 followed by Eddy, N.M., with 36 (up 2), Reeves with 33 (down 2), Loving with 30 (up 1), Midland with 27 (down 2) and Howard with 23 (up 1).
